Friends of the Parks has announced that Mark Schuler, owner of Schuler Motors, Inc, 727 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, made a generous donation to the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail project on Thursday, January 3, 2013.
In presenting the check to Barb Benson, Schuler commented, “Schuler Motors understands and appreciates the benefits of a community, quality-of-life enhancement such as the Morrison-Rockwood Trail. The recreational path for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and snowmobilers becomes another feather in Morrison’s cap, by helping to attract new families and businesses to work and locate here.”
Friends of the Parks Foundation began 17 years ago–in 1996–to assist the City of Morrison in providing park and recreation opportunities for the community. For more information about building the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail, please visit www.friendsoftheparksmorrison.org.
City of Morrison Administrator Jim Wise reported Monday, January 14, a tentative sequence of events leading to the completion of the Morrison-Rockwood Trail this year. It will be ten feet wide and 0.8 of a mile long.
- During the Monday, January 28, Council meeting he will present for approval the engineering firm to be used in the project.
- Letters of Notification will then be sent to three property owners regarding easement grants: Ken and Sandy Kophamer; Tim and Ann Slavin; Harvey and Karen Zuidema.
- Approximately on Friday, March 15, the engineering firm will begin surveying the lay of the path.
- In addition, the firm will compile information about site preparation needs, such as grading or filling.
- The City will seek bids for construction and compacting the trail, using a base coat and aggregate material on top.
- Construction will commence immediately.
Somewhere in the early stage, volunteers will be encouraged to assist with removal of trees and brush along the Slavin easement.
Friends of the Parks and the City of Morrison will share maintainance costs of the trail.
