Schmidt Has Already Introduced One Eighty Drug Vision to Whiteside Citizens

Posted by

RustyBoruffKrisCandidate for Whiteside County Sheriff Kris Schmidt announces that immediately after his meeting with One Eighty Executive Director and Founder, Rusty Boruff, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, he has been sharing the One Eighty vision with citizens, including some already in the Whiteside County Jail.  Boruff, left, is shown with Schmidt.

Schmidt stated, “We are all victims of the drug addiction that we are currently witnessing.  Whether through higher insurance rates from residential or vehicle thefts, higher retail costs because of shoplifting, or family matters, we are all feeling the effects.”

The One Eighty initiative has a motto of “Prevent.  Reach.  Develop,” regarding drug addiction treatment/prevention.  The program has been remarkably successful in the Davenport, IA, area.

Schmidt went on to say, “Through networking with Mr. Boruff and his team, we have that ability to bring it to Whiteside County and share that same success.”

As the next Sheriff, he fully intends to foster this commitment, because it will ultimately work hand-in-hand with other programs already implemented, including Safe Passage.  The “War on Drugs” has been around since June 1971 and alone has not been successful.  That is why, as Sheriff, Schmidt will couple law enforcement with education and drug addiction treatment, to institute a trifecta approach to our current drug problem.
