Candidate for Whiteside County Sheriff, Kris Schmidt, has officially filed to run for office. On Monday, November 27, 2017, he put on file more than 800 petition signatures, despite the minimum requirement for the office being only 108 signatures. To obtain such a large number of petitions, Schmidt walked door-to-door throughout the County, gathering signatures in nearly all of the precincts in the Whiteside County.
“From the beginning of this process, I set a goal of obtaining as many signatures as possible, because I wanted to hear first-hand the issues important to our communit[ies],” Schmidt said. “Everyone’s response was almost identical–they want to see a Sheriff with honesty and integrity. I am honored that so many residents of Whiteside County have placed their trust in me.”
The candidate added, “The Sheriff’s position requires long hours, steadfast dedication, and a desire to serve the people of Whiteside County. As Whiteside County Sheriff, I will proactively fight the heroin and opioid epidemic and lead our Sheriff’s department by example. There is no room in Whiteside County for scammers, drug pushers, or criminals who prey on our children and elderly.”
