The State of Illinois is celebrating its Bicentennial Anniversary and is promoting visits to Illinois’ most significant sites, in order to promote tourism around the State.  During that weekend, a special program “Doors Open Illinois,” will offer free access to more than 80 participating museums and historical sites around Illinois.  “Doors Open Illinois” will feature a different region of the State each weekend to celebrate and encourage visitors to learn more about their heritage.

Museum Events Chair Jean Ferris, stated, “We are proud and honored to have been chosen as one of the many sites with historical significance for the Doors Open event.  Our Gene Wright Gallery of Civil War Soldiers, which displays over 100 authentically dressed life-sized mannequins, our 1500 sq. ft. HO scale model railroad, and Scott Laws’ Wayne King, the Waltz King collections are unique.”

The Doors Open program is a perfect opportunity for locals who have never visited the Savanna museum.  It gives tourists the opportunity to view the collections.

Illinois has a unique history, and the program highlights what makes our State an amazing place to visit.
