Ruth G. Westendorf, 79, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Unity Point Hospital in Rock Island, IL.
Ruth was born January 17, 1937, in Morrison, to William and Lena (Van Wieren) Dykhuizen. She was educated in the Morrison Grade and High Schools. Ruth married Alvin B. Westendorf on February 11, 1966, in Morrison. He died May 11, 2000. She was a homemaker as well as a bus driver for R. C. Smith Transportation in Morrison, for 16 years. Ruth was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She loved to play cribbage and rummy with her family and also to spend time fishing. She had a talent for drawing and loved to color. Her greatest accomplishment, she always said, were her children and grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
She is survived by two sons, Steven (Jean Marie) Best of Wauwatosa, WI, and Alan (Tina) Westendorf of Lawrenceville, GA; one daughter, Lisa (Randy) Meier of Morrison; two stepsons, Gene (Melanie) Bollig of Colorado and Jeff (Rhonda) Westendorf of Westminister, CO; one stepdaughter, Linda (Cameron) Moore of Ouray, CO; her sister, Dorothy Conklin of Cedar Rapids, IA; her brother, John (Alberta) Dykhuizen of Milledgeville, IL; eight grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; numerous step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special “adopted daughter,” Linda (Dale) Mohling of Kearney, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; two sisters, Marian Nice and Wilma Tucker; four brothers, Alvin “Bud” Dykhuizen, George Dykhuizen, Edward Dykhuizen, and William Dykhuizen, Jr.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2016, at Morrison United Methodist Church
OFFICIATING: Rev. Ryan Sutton, Pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church
VISITATION: 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
