Ronald L. Temple (1934 – 2014)

Ronald L. Temple, 79, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 17, 2014, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton.

Ronald was born October 30, 1934, in Fulton, to David and Jennie (Huizenga) Temple. He was educated in the FultoRonald Templen Community Christian Grade School, and attended Fulton High School. Ron had served in the U. S. Navy Reserves. He married Vangie L. Kophamer on January 27, 1956, in Morrison, IL. She died August 6, 1991. He later married Lorraine A. (Engelkens) Ammon on May 20, 1995, in Fulton.

Ron was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1994. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and served as elder and deacon. Ron and Jim Wessels were the founders of the interscholastic basketball program for Unity Christian School in Fulton, where Ron coached for many years. He was a former member of the Fulton Fire Department. Ron was a skilled softball player during his younger years. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid Illini and White Sox fan, and collected railroad memorabilia. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; four sons, Rick (Mary) Temple of Fulton, Randy (Lois) Temple of Morrison, Terry (Denise) Temple of Fulton, and Marty (Danette) Temple of Naperville, IL; three step-daughters, Cindy (Dan) Spooner of Fulton, Melinda (Rick) Cadogan of Plainfield, IL, and Julie Taylor of Germantown Hills, IL; ten grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dalbert (Jean) Temple of Fulton; one brother-in-law, Jim (Geri) Kophamer of Morrison.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vangie; one stepson, Danny.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL

CO-OFFICIATING:  Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor, Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and Rev. John Byker, Retired Pastor

VISITATION:  5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL

Memorials to Unity Christian School and Harbor Crest Home, both of Fulton, IL, have been established.
