Ronald G. Vegter, 76, of Morrison, IL, died unexpectedly Monday, September 16, 2013, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Ron was born August 5, 1937, in Morrison to George J. and Pearline F. (Workman) Vegter. He attended Morrison Community Schools. Ron married Dixie Milligan on September 20, 1969, in Lyndon, IL.
Ron farmed and was employed by General Electric from 1963 to 1976. He was the creator and owner of Cross Creek Golf Course, a land developer, and a home builder. Ron was a hardworking entrepreneur who built three subdivisions and Cross Creek Golf Course. He had a vision when he saw a vacant piece of land. Where Cross Creek is located today, Ron had farmed and hunted in his early years. He loved vacationing to Hawaii and relaxing on a cruise. Ron enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was always willing to take on any project, big or small. Ron loved spending time with his grandchildren. Until recent events, he had been a “poster boy” of good health.
Ron is survived by his wife, Dixie, his children, Mike (Kelly) Vegter of Morrison, Shelly (Craig) Gerald of Corona, CA, Mindy Vegter of Fulton, IL, his grandchildren, Nicole (Robert) Schine of Boulder City, NV, Justin (Leslie) Wall of Morrison, Josh Wall of Morrison, Jessica Wall of Los Angeles, CA, Ashley Domdey of Camanche, IA, Jamie (Tyler) Geerts of Fenton, IL, Cameron Gerald of Corona, CA, Michael Vegter of Morrison, and Jeremiah Brown of Fulton.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Treva Domdey, a sister, Mary Bull, and a brother, Jay Vegter.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A graveside committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday September 20, 2013, at the Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL.
A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road, Morrison, IL, starting at 4:30 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2013, with the scattering of Ron’s cremated remains by the Quad City Skydiving Club at 5:00 p.m.
