Roger A. Schumacher, 85, of rural Erie, IL, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at Pleasant View Rehab & Health Care Center in Morrison, IL.
Roger was born on August 17, 1930, in Clinton, IA, to Fred and Viola (Rasmassen) Schumacher. He served his Country in the U. S. Army from 1952 to1954 and was stationed in France. Roger first married Virginia Matthew. Roger later married Dora Conchola. He was a lifelong farmer. In addition to farming, he worked for 30 years at International Harvester.
Roger’s passion was building and flying his airplanes. He was a member of the Erie Air Park. In the summer months he also loved to spend time on the river fishing and enjoying his houseboat. For many years he spent his winters in Florida.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Janice (James) Graszer, Erie; brother, Dallas Schumacher, Moline, IL; special friend, Harriet Vrchoticky; grandchildren, Jim, Jr. (Chrissy) Graszer, Aurora, IL, Michael Graszer Chicago, IL, and Christy Graszer; a great-grandson, Xander Graszer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora, in 2007 and sister, Delores DeGroot.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service, on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery.
