“About 50” members of Rock River Restorers Antique Autos club are celebrating the Golden Anniversary of the club. It began in the Sterling-Dixon, IL, area in 1968. Founding member Lucy Rice (and her husband) reside in Coleta, IL, but they did not attend the visit to Morrison, IL, on Sunday, April 15, 2018.
One goal of the spring road trip was to tour Morrison’s Heritage Museum, 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison. Four Morrison Historical Society Trustees greeted the visitors: President Harvey Zuidema, right; Vice President Dan Vandermyde, left; Membership Chair Diane Wiebenga; Stephanie Vavra. Some club members gravitated to the Lincoln Highway book and magazines on the table.
Zuidema lead the discussion of interesting items. Here he pauses to discuss former resident Billy Gray, who spent summers performing with circuses. Gray’s snare drum is on display, with photos featuring his passion for fishing.
Members of surrounding communities and locals are invited to take a similar road trip, later this month and tour the museum. The Grand Opening of the 2018 season is Sunday, April 29. Doors open at 1:00. Judith Holesinger will provide the program at 1:30, sharing her passion for gristmills around the world. Holesinger is a Miller at de Immigrant, the authentic Dutch windmill in Fulton, IL. Refreshments will be served.
Open days are 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday and by appointment. Call 815-772-8889 to leave a message, or call Zuidema at 815-772 3084. Morrison’s Heritage Museum is accessible to all, with a ramp entrance at the back of the building. Groups are invited to hold meetings at the museum.
