robert doescherSrRobert Doescher, Sr., age 88 of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, August 26, 2015, at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton, IA..

Robert was born on June 21, 1927, in Lyons, IA, the son of William and Ida (Winkel) Doescher. He married Kathryn Huizenga on April 20, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2013. He was employed by the Department of Transportation as a toll booth operator for many years. He also worked for the City of Fulton, for Pillsbury Soy Plant, and part-time for J & D Construction. Robert had an interest in cars. He enjoyed riding his bike and spending time working in his garage; he was always fixing or making something. Robert was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton.

Survivors include four daughters, Deb (Ken) Dykstra of Fulton, Gail Wiersema of Albany, IL, Donna (Tim) Green of Fulton, and Dawn (Wayne) Benson of Clinton; two sons, Robert P. (Ginny) Doescher, Jr. of Morrison, IL, and Mike (Candy) Doescher of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Alta Doescher of Clinton and Clausina Huizenga of Morrison; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one great-grandson, Isaac Dykstra; three brothers, William, George, and Henry Doescher; two sisters, including his twin sister, Irene Barrows, and Dorothy Shocker; one son-in-law, Robert Wiersema.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton, IL.

Funeral services will be on Friday, August 28, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, with Reverend Scott Stephen, officiating.

Burial will follow at Fulton Township Cemetery.
