River Cities Quilt Guild Shows September 27-28

QuiltShowCommitteeQuilting by the River 2019 Quilt Show will be held Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Fulton Presbyterian Church, 311 N. 9th Street, Fulton, IL.  River Cities Quilt Guild will display quilts of all sizes, as well as Quilts of Valor® and a raffle quilt, “Storm at Sea.”  Hours are noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 4.:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Admission is $5, with no charge for those 12 years and younger.

There will be a bed turning demonstration, showing antique quilts with their stories.  Door prizes will be given out continually..

A Silent Auction will feature a large wooden “quilt” and several beautiful quilted items.  The auction will end at Saturday at 2:00, along with the announcement of the raffle quilt winner.  You need not be present to win.

A big draw at the show is the “Boutique,” a broad mix of handmade items for sale.  This is a great opportunity to do early holiday and birthday shopping.  Give a gift that is well made and useful to the recipient.  Buy quilted items to decorate your home or office.

If you are interested in sewing or quilting, there will be two shops at the show with fabrics, patterns, and lots of ideas.  Heartland Cottons, from De Witt, IA, and Feed Mill Fabrics from Oneida, IL, will be there.  Clark Scissor will sharpen your knives and scissors.

This will be a great weekend to start your autumn season.  While in Fulton visit

  • the Dutch windmill, de Immigrant, right on the Mississippi River.  It is open Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Heritage Canyon, 515 N. 4th Street, with its historic buildings.  It is open for walkers and photographers.
  • Lock and Dam No. 13, a few miles to the north on IL Route 84.
  • restaurants and shops.
