The River Cities Quilt Guild will meet Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Susan’s Calico Creations, 1108 4th Street, in Fulton, IL. The evening will begin with a trunk show presented by Sandy Irish, owner of the Irish Chain Pattern Company, and be followed by a short business meeting and show-and-tell of quilt projects by those present.
The Irish Chain Pattern Company was started in 2003 by Sandi Irish. She has been quilting for over 23 years, teaching and working in a quilt shop, as well as designing quilts for companies like Timeless Treasures Fabrics, and doing other commissioned works. Since Irish has always preferred to create her own designs or adapt traditional quilts to her own style, starting a pattern company was a natural step to take.
Irish Chain patterns are easy enough for beginners. They also give more advanced quilters a chance to sharpen piecing skills, play with color, and just have fun. All the patterns are rotary cut and machine pieced.
The “Quilted Jewels Series” of patterns was added in 2008. It will continue to grow with more designs cut using the template set. A new Pine Tree pattern will be released in May.
Next in line for Irish is a book, featuring a quilt originally designed for the Pinetree Patchworkers Quilt guild of Brainerd, MN. It will include easy to more-challenging designs, from a basic log cabin to a paper-pieced mariner’s compass.
The River Cities Quilt Guild is a group of quilters who gather on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. In addition to quilting games, programs include demonstrations, trunk shows, and guest speakers.
