The Savanna Historical Society is hosting a special fundraiser: a ride on the riverboat Twilight with a former riverboat captain, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. Twilight will leave from LeClaire, IA, and return at 4:30 to the same dock.
The SHS is very pleased to announce they have procured interpreter Brian “Fox” Ellis, top left. He has given several programs at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center in Savanna, IL.
Ellis will be aboard and speak as Steamboat Captain Henry Detweiller, below, a friend and rival of Mark Twain.
As a Riverlorian and storyteller, Ellis has worked on riverboats for more than 25 years and weaves together tall tales and true history. His programs alwayshave been well attended. His first-person presentations are well researched and entertaining.
The SHS Board members will serve tasty desserts to guests as they enjoy the sights and sounds of the river. The fundraiser will help the Society to continue to improve the building and develop exhibits.
Tickets are $50 each. They are available from any Board member or call Ann at 815-275-1958.
