Morrison Garden Club was chosen [collective] Citizen of the Year at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Networking Meeting, on Thursday, January 17, 2019.  On Tuesday, April 9, the organization joined the Chamber.  On Friday, May 3, a Ribbon Cutting ceremony took place in front of Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, to welcome them to Morrison Chamber of Commerce.

Several planting beds surround the library, all of which are maintained by these volunteer gardeners, some of whom are certified Master Gardeners.

Annually, Morrison Garden Club conducts three additional beautification initiatives:

  • plantings at the fountain in Grove Hill Cemetery/Memorial Park, prior to Memorial Day
  • summer containers and (sometimes) artistic representations at the southeast corner of U. S. Highway 30 and IL Route 78
  • Main Street and “the sandwich corner” planters, prior to the Christmas Walk.

A new collaboration will take place at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community.

Their recent Annual Plant Sale inside the City of Morrison Community Room, on Saturday, May 4, was a near sell-out.  “We did very well!” stated member Sharon Moore.  Left-behind plants will be donated to the Fulton, IL, plant sale.

A new MGC fundraising effort invites the public to “Adopt-a-Pot” on Main Street and the corner of Highway 30 and IL Route 78.  The single pot in the pocket park beside Morrison’s Heritage Museum has been sold for this year.  Sponsors have six opportunities left to fund the 2019 plantings.  Mail or hand deliver a check for $40, payable to Morrison Garden Club, to the Chamber of Commerce office, 221 W. Main Street.  There is a drop box outside the building.

Participants include, left-to-right, Stephanie Neas, Lois King, Mick Welding, Sharon Moore (MGC), Kevin Schisler, Paul Granderson, Jerry Lehr, Mayor Everett Pannier, Jan Mayes (MGC), Kathy Anderson (MGC), Patti Nice (MGC), Morrison Chamber of Commerce Coordinator Meridith Layne, and Angela Reamer.

Ten Garden Club members were not in attendance:  Mary Ann Chatterton, Cheryl Christianson, Sandra Crouse, Diana Garcia, Jan Kelly, Linnea Koch, Mary Latwesen, Dee Morgan, Linda Port, and Sabrina Statzer.
