The Morrison Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, February 22, 2013, at Kreative Rentals Ltd., 115 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, to recognize new owner Katie Jakubs.  She owns a “premier rental, decorating, and consulting business” for weddings, ceremonies, receptions, banquets, and other special events.

Jakubs is well into the newish year, with 31 brides to assist and two events, over which she will spread her design magic.  She is making a name for herself as a new business owner and creative designer.   She will adorn a benefit for Shawnelle Soenksen and the “Make Teal Real” event Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22.

She participated in Bridal Fairs on Sunday, January 27, in Clinton, IA, and Sunday, February 3, at Sauk Valley College, Dixon, IL.  The more recent “show was almost double the size of Clinton.”  She takes vases and two or three designs in different color schemes.

“The main color for 2013 is plum with various accent [colors].  So many people have called, [and other] vendors have called!”

Selmi’s in Rock Falls, IL, and Wilson Greenhouses & Florist in Morrison are businesses Jakubs works with for florals.  She collaborates with vendors in the Quad Cities, too.

In addition, Kris Muur, former co-owner with Audrey Kooi, “wants to help with weddings and our Care Free Service.  We decorate, light the candles, and tear down,” said Jakubs.

She provides elegant linens, vases, and accessories, including flower petals, table favors; candy bags; even pretty, decorated bags for brides who do not wish to carry a bouquet.

With such a pleasing inventory, Jakubs has not had to make equipment purchases.  However, she is planning to buy crystal candelabra for an upcoming wedding.

Family members are important to her business, as she is currently working alone.  Recently, Marcia Hunter and Kate’s sister, Jamie Huggins, helped decorate the front display windows after Valentine’s Day.

“Dad [Bruce] is going to make a chalkboard for guests to add comments at the [wedding] reception,” she added.
