The Whiteside County Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazards Mitigation Plan will be available for public review and comment, starting Thursday, May 19, 2022.
The Mitigation Plan outlines projects and activities to reduce damages, caused by severe weather and other natural and man-made hazards. The Plan, along with a summary sheet and a comment survey, will be available on the Whiteside County webpage. The comment period will remain open through Thursday, June 2.
If you are unable to access the Plan via the website, please contact Lieutenant Jake Kilberg at 815-772-5220. Request an appointment to view a paper copy of the Plan. Public comments will be used to make any revisions needed, before the Plan is submitted to the Illinois and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA.)
A Public Forum will be held at the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center, County Board Room, 400 N. Cherry Street, Morrison, IL, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 19. Individuals can still review the Plan and provide comments without participating in the Public Forum.
“This Plan describes how the County and the participating jurisdictions have been impacted by severe weather and other natural and man-made hazards…[It] identifies specific mitigation actions that can be taken, to reduce damages to people and property before events occur,” explained Whiteside County Sheriff John Booker.
The Whiteside County All Hazards Mitigation Planning Committee has been conducting working meetings open to the public since May 2021. The Committee prepared this Plan update with technical assistance from State and Federal agencies as well as a consultant specializing in emergency management planning.
Municipalities of Albany, Erie, Fulton, Morrison, Rock Falls, Sterling, and Tampico, as well as Whiteside County, the Regional Office of Education, River Bend School District, Sterling Public Schools, and CGH Medical Center have participated in the planning process.
