A three phase building program at Resthave Retirement and Nursing Home, 408 Maple Avenue, Morrison, IL, is now into its final phase. During the week of Monday, February 9, 2015, 39 nursing home residents were moved into the newly completed Nursing Wing, completing Phase Two. In addition, ten residents from Morrison Community Hospital’s Four Seasons nursing facility found a new home at Resthave. More Four Seasons patients will soon follow.
The warm, colorful, and soothing nursing wing will house 70 nursing patients, in private rooms complete with private bath.
“I toured the empty wing before the migration,” said board member Anne Frame, “and was in awe. Although many are finishing the final touches in their rooms, I saw contented people.”
Marilyn Herrick, a resident in the new wing, said, “I am home! I am happy,” as her daughter was arranging furniture, pictures, and a TV.
Each room will definitely have the occupant’s cherished items.
Phase Three, the final phase, literally began on the heels of the residents’ move. Construction workers moved into the old wing and began the demolition of walls, floors, and ceilings. As one of the construction men stated, “This part is now a ghost town!”
The area will be reconstructed into 17 assisted living apartments adjoining the 20 earlier constructed apartments. Also in this final phase will be the completion of the main entrance, chapel, and offices.
One hundred and three people now work at Resthave, either part-time or full time. “We will be hiring an additional 20-30 people,” stated Director Tami Tegeler. Tegeler will wear two hats: Administrator for the entire building and staff, as well as Executive Director of the Assisted Living Wing. Kristi Christianson is the Nursing Home Administrator. Each of these women shares a love of helping people and a wealth of knowledge.
Tegeler (pictured below left) received her Masters’ Degree in Administration in 1997 and began her duties at Resthave in 2010. Two years later she was not only overseeing patients and staff, but also leading the multi-faceted building and renovation. “With cheerfulness, patience, and extreme dedication, Tami has guided this huge task,” said President John Hauptman.
Christianson (pictured below right) returns to Resthave after serving on the board for three years prior. When asked, “Why here?”, she replied, “I liked the compassion I saw here while I was on the board. A large corporation does not own Resthave. It is unique, because it is supported by the local churches and residents.”
When Phase Three is finished, Resthave will be home to 107 people and be an employer for over 125. The long journey that began with a dream will be completed.
