Illinois State Representative Tony McCombie announced the winners of the 2019 Spring Photo Contest.
“Congratulations to Karen Miles and Scott Wolfe on your winning photos. I love the 71st District and truly believe we have the most beautiful landscape and wonderful people,” said Rep. McCombie. “I enjoyed looking through all the photos that were submitted this spring, for our second photo contest. I love showing off the people and places of the 71st District, so [each photograph] will be a great addition to the office.”
Dozens of photos from across the district were submitted to the contest. The winning photo from each category (People and Places) will be displayed in the Savanna, or Springfield, IL, office.
Karen Miles of Lyndon, IL, took the winning photo in the Places category, “Ellsworth Creek.” Miles paddled upstream in her kayak to the creek, off the Rock River between Lyndon and Prophetstown, IL, in order to get this shot. It was taken in early June during a brief period between floods, when the water level was down.
Scott Wolfe of Savanna took the winning photo in the People category. “Sandbaggers from Savanna” highlights just a few of the almost 200 West Carroll High School students, along with many other groups and individuals, that volunteered their time to assist the Savanna Fire Department’s sandbagging efforts during flood season. When this wall was completed several days later, the Mississippi floodwaters would continue to rise another 20 inches.
