Relay For Life is a community event that celebrates survivorship, to provide hope to all that, with early diagnosis, cancer can be overcome.  Relay requires a team of eight-to-15 persons to fundraise in advance, participate in the walk, and celebrate life.  It is an event for all ages, sexes, nationalities, and communities in Whiteside County.  Visit Relay For Life to register a team, join as a participant, register as a survivor, make a donation, and to find details about this 20th annual American Cancer Society event.  Call Cassie at 815-229-1287, extension 3.

  • This year only one face-to-face Team Captain meeting will be held, on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 6:30 p.m., in the Ryberg Auditorium at CGH Medical Center, 100 E. LeFevre Road, Sterling, IL.
  • Bank Night will be held on Wednesday, May 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Team members who have collected a minimum of $100 will be given an event t-shirt at that time.

Relay For Life in Whiteside County, IL, is planned for Saturday, June 13, at Hinders Field at Rock Falls High School, 508 15th Avenue, Rock Falls.  No longer an overnight event, it will start at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening and end at midnight.  While adults are setting up their campsites from 3:00 until 5:30, children’s activities will be provided.

At 6:00 all cancer survivors will open the Relay For Life by walking the first lap.  The longest and newest survivors will be recognized and awarded gifts.  Throughout the evening walk, at least one team member must be on the track at all times, as various laps and activities take place, to encourage participants to Celebrate!  Remember! and Fight Back.

At dusk, around 9:00, the Luminaria Ceremony will begin.  Luminaries–bags with lights in them–will be arranged around the track at Hinders Field.  Each bag will bear the name of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer.  All names will be read aloud and honored in memory, both of those who survived the diagnosis and those who did not survive.  The public is invited to purchase the luminaria in advance and up to an hour before the ceremony.  Come witness this ceremony of honor and hope.

Closing Ceremony will be held at 11:30, and teams will hear the grand total of their fundraising efforts.  All activities of Relay are open to the public.  Come to see what Relay For Life is all about!
