The Odell Public Library building may still be closed, but Summer Reading Club is open for registration. Sponsored by United Way of Whiteside County, SRC is open to all children entering preschool through 8th grade. SRC encourages children to continue reading over the summer break, by offering fun and educational enrichment activities. Registration is required, but a child need not be a library card holder to participate.
Our 2020 Summer Reading Club theme is “(Re-)Imagine Your Story.” Programming will look a lot different, as we practice social distancing and with our building closed to the public, but we still will have plenty of fun for our readers.
Each child will receive a customized binder of challenges and activities, available through no-contact curbside pickup, about once a week. Nearly all challenges will be paper-based or non-electronic and are designed to foster creativity, movement, and problem-solving skills. Please know that dates and activities may change throughout the summer as new guidelines become available.
In an effort to reduce physical contact, we are going completely digital with our registration this year. Registration is available on www.odellpubliclibrary.com as well as on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Please remember that registration is required with a deadline of Sunday, May 31, so that we have enough time to order and bag materials.
The first packet pickup date is tentatively set for Monday, June 15, from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Odell Public Library parking lot.
Help your child’s mind stay sharp this summer, and sign up today! Please call 815-772-7323 or email Katie at krider.odell@gmail.com for assistance.
