On Friday, July 19, 2013, the American Red Cross is providing canteen services to first responders in Sterling, IL, who are searching for a missing child. There are currently two fire departments on the scene, and Red Cross workers will provide food and water to over 25 individuals.
This is the second time this week that the Red Cross has been called to support local first responders in Whiteside County. The first occurrence was on Monday, July 15, when 11 Red Cross Disaster Workers responded to a fire in Prophetstown, IL.
- The Red Cross provided 200 meals to people impacted by the fire, including the first responders.
- The Red Cross also helped coordinate assistance–in the form of food, shelter, and emotional support–to ten individuals who were displaced due to the fire.
