ann groharingRachel Ann Groharing, 93, of Morrison, IL, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020, at Rock River Hospice Home in Sterling, IL.

Ann, as she was always called, was born in Morrison on August 25, 1926, the daughter of Bernie and Frances (Fletchic) Humphrey.  She graduated from Morrison High School in 1944 and attended Scoville Business College in Sterling.  Ann then accepted a position at Smith Trust & Savings Bank and soon met her future husband, Fred Groharing.  After a short courtship, they were married on May 3, 1946, in the parsonage of Morrison United Methodist Church.  A reception was held at the Brick House, complete with a wedding cake baked by Ann’s grandmother.

After raising her children, Ann returned to work at Whiteside County Bank, as well as the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Extension Office.  Ann even managed an office in her home for Blue Cross Blue Shield.  She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church, as well as the Good Morning Circle, which participated in many church activities.  Ann and Fred spent most weekends at their summer home in Wisconsin, where they enjoyed spending time with their friends and fishing in the Wisconsin River.  They also enjoyed traveling and were able to visit every state except Alaska and Hawaii.  Ann was an animal lover, and she was especially fond of her special feline friend “Mittens.”  She could often be found in her beautiful flower garden, cooking in the kitchen, or spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan (Larry) Baker of Urbana, IL, Debra (Bob) Vaughn and Judy Deter, both of Morrison; sister, Donna Meyer of Rochelle, IL; three grandchildren, Jennifer Vaughn of Chicago, IL, Molly (Kevin) Reimer of Elburn, IL, and Ben (Olen Amelia) Deter of Chicago; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Abigail, and Olivia Reimer; many nieces and nephews.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; son-in-law Ted Deter.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Per Ann’s wishes, there will be no visitation.

Private family Graveside Services will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Morrison United Methodist Church, the Humane Society, or Rock River Hospice Home.
