Racers Stride for Students During 5K

Trent Bush, Morrison, IL, reported, “We had a nice turnout” during the fourth annual Strides for Students 5K run/walk, held at Morrison-Rockwood State Park on Saturday, August 13, 2016.  Racers began at 8:00 a.m. near the Cedar Ridge Pavilion, looped through the campgrounds, and finished at the pavilion.  All proceeds benefit Morrison Schools Foundation.

Sixty-seven females and 47 males entered the race; everyone finished.  The average time was 34:14 minutes.  Jaclyn Sciacer (22:46) and Julia Deter (23:39) finished first and second, respectively; Charles Lange (18:18) led the field and the men, followed by Scott Vance in second place (21:23.)

Dennis Blevins, Rock Falls, IL, is a returning winner; he trains with Rock River Road Runners.  “There were only two runners in the 60-64 age group, and I got first.”  He crossed the line after 30:32 minutes.  “This is two minutes faster than my last 5K.  It was humid!” he added, even though a light mist was cooling.
