Projects and activities to prevent injuries and fatalities, while maintaining vital services for Whiteside County residents, will be the main topic of discussion, on Thursday, January 27, 2022.  Whiteside County’s “All Hazards Mitigation Planning Commission” will meet at 2:00 p.m., at the Law Enforcement Center, 400 N. Cherry Street, Morrison, IL.

Committee meetings are open to the public; attendees may do so in person (with masks required) or virtually.  Register with Andrea Bostwick, American Environmental Corporation, at 217-585-9517, extension 9, or abostwick@aecspfld.com.

Submit questions and comments directly to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office:  815-772-5218 or by fax to 815-772-7944.

The Committee began in May 2021 to update the “All Hazards Mitigation Plan.”  It details past severe weather that impacted the County and identifies mitigation projects and activities, to take before a severe weather event occurs.  The goal is to protect residents, critical services, and infrastructure.

Sheriff John Booker noted, “There has been at least $9.5 million in verified property damages and $22.4 million in crop damage, caused by severe weather events in the County.  Obtaining FEMA’s approval of our updated Plan will  make all of the participants eligible to receive Federal grant money for mitigation projects and activities.”

The entire Plan will be available to the public, before submission to the State and Federal Government for approval.  “We want to make sure that [interested persons have] an opportunity to review and comment on the draft Plan update,” added Sheriff Booker.
