Prophetstown, IL, has been forced to cancel the 49th annual 4th of July fireworks, on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in Prophetstown State Park. Flooding of the Rock River has closed the park until Sunday, July 7.
However, fun is still to be had. On Wednesday, July 3, these events will take place far from the high waters:
- 6:00 music at Eclipse Square, Washington Street–Reflex Blues Band and AEB Production of “Some Kind of Wonderful.” Bring-your-own-beer, insect repellant, and a lawn chair or blanket for comfortable viewing.
- 6:30 p.m. kids races at the Park District, 410 Riverside Drive.
- 6:30 p.m. 5K race beginning at the Park District, 410 Riverside Drive.
Co-sponsors are the Men’s Club and Prophetstown Fire Protection District. Donations will be solicited by these organizations.
On Thursday, July 4, the Park District will be the site of the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. Contact the Fire Department to per-purchase tickets for the basketball tournament at 815-537-2215.
