Sarah Uthoff Photo 2The Volunteer Millers at de Immigrant windmill in Fulton, IL, will host their monthly public program on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. This event will be held at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 10th Avenue, in downtown Fulton, across from the authentic Dutch windmill.  Sarah Uthoff, lifelong Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiast, will present “Thanksgiving:  From Pilgrims to Pioneer.”  Programs are supported by a grant from the D. S. Flikkema Foundation.

Originally presented at the National Association of Living History Farms and Museums conference, “Thanksgiving: From Pilgrims to Pioneer” looks at examples of how Thanksgiving was celebrated over the years.  It traces traditions to where they began (mostly with the Victorians) and talks about why we associate Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims. The Ingalls family serves as guide in the talk, but information from many other sources is included.

Uthoff received both her BA in History Education and her Masters of Library Science from the University of Iowa.  She is currently a reference librarian at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA.  She is an active Wilder researcher and served as President of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association.  She is also list mistress for the Country School Association of America and serves on their board.

The program is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served following the presentation.

The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities.
