Early on Friday morning, October 2, 2020, President Donald J. Trump announced he and his wife, Melania had tested positive with the corona virus. He stated in a tweet, “Tonight, [the First Lady of the United States] and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
On Thursday, October 1, the White House had announced top aide Hope Hicks had tested positive and was presenting mild symptoms. She had traveled with the President several times this week, including to a rally in Minnesota. Hicks was a passenger on Air Force One returning to Washington, D. C., which carried the President’s son-in-law and Senior Advisor to the President of the United States, Jared (Ivanka) Kushner. United States Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin was on board, too.
Hours after the President tested positive, on Friday morning, the office of Vice President Mike Pence announced he and his wife, Karen, had tested negative for COVID-19.
As of Friday morning, October 2, the corona virus has killed 207,789 Americans.
