The Black Box Theatre located in the heart of downtown Moline, IL, will present the United States premiere of “The Truth,” by Florian Zeller and adapted by Christopher Hampton. It is described as “a pacy comedy that pictures marriage and male friendship as a maze of deception. Vain and fidgety Michel is having an affair with Alice, the elegant wife of his unemployed friend, Paul. But when his own wife Laurence starts to pose tricky questions, we sense he’s not the only character with an agenda.”
Florian Zeller is a French Novelist, Playwright, Theatre Director, Screenwriter, and Film Director. He has written over a dozen plays, that have been staged worldwide and have made him one of the most celebrated contemporary playwrights. Christopher Hampton is a British Playwright, Screenwriter, Translator, and Film Director, best known for his play “Les Liaisons Dangereues.”
The Black Box production stars Matt Walsh, Ann Keeney Grafft, Jonathan Grafft, and Lora Adams, with direction by Bradley Robert Jensen.
Adams saw the production in London many years ago, but it took years of letter writing to acquire the rights to produce it at The Black Box. It has also been produced in Melbourne, Australia. Production design is by Adams, who is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Black Box Theatre, founded in 2016.
