The position is 40 hours/week.  Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Attendance at monthly board meetings, special events, outdoor activities and other evening meetings as necessary throughout the year is expected.  Administrative Coordinator reports directly to RISWCD publicly-elected Board of Directors.  Starting salary will be based upon skill and experience.  RISWCD offers individual health, dental, and vision insurance benefits; short-term disability insurance; long-term disability insurance; retirement contributions.

RISWCD offers a flexible and casual work environment.  All employees are an integral part of the conservation team.  This position offers considerable responsibility.  The organization is responsive to employee ideas and suggestions; your ideas for programming and improvements will be taken into consideration.

Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Bookkeeping/Payroll/QuickBooks
  • Educational Programming including events, community outreach, and conservation events
  • Ensuring compliance with Illinois’ government unit and grantor requirements
  • Outreach Efforts including newsletter, website (WordPress), and social media
  • Execution of tree and fish sales
  • Prepare for monthly board meetings:  develop agenda, activity report, financial reports, research administrative information and options, and provide leadership
  • Clerical duties and maintenance of office files
  • Watershed grant implementation
  • Assist other staff as needed.

Applicant should possess strong written, verbal, and customer service skills.  In addition, applicant shall be self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task.  Candidates with intermediate skills in MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, ArcGIS, and QuickBooks are preferred.  A driven person with an agriculture or environmental background is preferred.

Note:  Candidate selected will be required to complete a Federal background check as well as be fingerprinted.  He/She must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License, insurance, and satisfactory driving record. Candidates must have their own transportation.

RISWCD and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) work in a unique partnership.  Their shared purpose is to promote, protect, maintain, improve, and wisely use Rock Island County’s irreplaceable soil, water, and related natural resources.  The District

  • provides land users with technical assistance
  • develops programs to address local natural resource problems
  • offers quality conservation education to children and adults.

About RISWCD
The Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District was established February 10, 1942, under the Illinois Soil and Water Conservation District Act of 1937., Each District is classified as a “local unit of government;” SWCD’s are not a branch of Federal, State, or County Government.  The Act gives SWCD’s the responsibility to provide technical information to individuals and groups on methods of soil and water conservation.  The District is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors.  Districts have no taxing authority.  Funding is provided by grants from the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Rock Island County.  Additional resources are provided by NRCS, based on a Memorandum of
Understanding.  Revenues from District programs, services, and sales also support the District mission.
