In July 2019, the Morrison Police Department received a grant award in the amount of $7500 to purchase a Speed & Variable Message Trailer. The grant award is through the Powering Safe Communities Program, funded by ComEd and administered by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus. The trailer will assist the Police Department in its public safety efforts and emergency responses.
The Speed & Variable Message Trailer is utilized for speed monitoring, data collection, speed awareness, speed enforcement, traffic control, and one-way communication for road hazards, enforcement campaigns, special events, and other emergency responses.
As a result of this award, MPD has purchased and is now deploying the trailer.
The initial goal was to have the trailer ready for Morrison’s Paint-the-Town event on Saturday, September 21, but due to weather, the event was cancelled. The initial deployment of the trailer occurred today, Tuesday, October 1, to call attention to speed awareness near Morrison High School.
Chief Melton stated, “The Morrison Police Department is grateful to the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and ComEd for their partnership and providing funding assistance. MPD is also grateful to the Morrison City Council for their support of this project.”
