Phyllis Maxfield Celebrates 95th Birthday

Posted by

Some birthdays are a significant “milestone.”  Such was the case as Phyllis Maxfield, Morrison, IL, reached the 95th anniversary of her birth, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.  She was born in 1923, as Phyllis Anita Hillmer, of Geneseo, IL.

On Sunday afternoon, January 14, local friends and her extended family gathered to honor her, at the City of Morrison Community Room, Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.  They came some distance–from Lone Tree, IA; Wausau, WI; Leesburg, GA; Delaware.  Sweets included two sheet cakes, various desserts, and pies.  “Brian [her son] baked six pies!” she said.  “He likes to bake pies.”

Phyllis Maxfield is the mother of nine children, in this order:  Barry (Wausau); the late Marcia Morris (Moline, IL); Brian (Dekalb, IL); Nancy “Nan” Carlson (Morrison); Jeffrey who died in infancy (not pictured); Janet Beveroth (Morrison); Paul (Morrison); Vaughn (Morrison); Phillip (Leesburg, GA.)  From these came her 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, Quinten.

In 1943, she had become the bride of Stanley Maxfield, and they shared 69 years until his death in 2012.  Their wedding portrait is visible on the table.

Among the many photographs and memorabilia that chronicled Maxfield’s nine-and-a-half decades, there was a Girl Scout sash from her youth in Geneseo, IL.
