Phyllis A. Ottens (1940 – 2014)

phyllis ottensPhyllis A. Ottens, 73, of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL.

Phyllis was born September 18, 1940, in Sterling, IL, to Paul S. and Josephine R. (Lodge) Jaquet. She was educated in the Prophetstown Grade Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Prophetstown High School in Prophetstown, IL. She attended Sauk Valley Community College classes. Phyllis married Gene A. Ottens on October 2, 1959, in Prophetstown. She was employed as a secretary for several local companies and also worked for several years in the Morrison High School cafeteria. Phyllis was a member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church and the church’s Golden Hour Society. She served as deacon, librarian, and Sunday School, Catechism, and Bible School teacher. Phyllis also was a member of the Praise Team and served on several church committees. She was always passionate about her service to her church’s ministry. Phyllis was a leader for the Lyndon Loyal Leaders 4-H Club and was the Barnabas Group Team Captain in the Relay for Life. Phyllis enjoyed playing volleyball, reading, crafts, and stitchery. Her greatest joy was being a mom and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Gene; one daughter, Lisa (Bruce) Zaagman of Lyndon, IL; three sons, Allen (Karen) Ottens of Loves Park, IL; Jeff (Colette) Ottens of Marysville, KS; and Greg (Nicky) Ottens of Mattoon, IL; seven grandchildren, Brent Zaagman, Bridget (Derrick) Maupin, Nathan and Nicholas Ottens, Braeden, Bailey, and Olivia Ottens; five step-grandchildren, Mike McGuire, Melissa (Todd) Walker, Jenny (Tony) Chatman, Mary Martin, Chrissy (Matt) Tripodi; one brother, Vernon (Shelly) Jaquet of Tampico, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Morrison Christian Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Dr. James T. Petersen, Pastor, Morrison Christian Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION:  5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Morrison Chapel–Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
