PeterandWolf“Peter and the Wolf,” the grand-classic of musical children’s tales, will be featured by the Clinton Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Sterling High School’s Centennial Auditorium, 1608 4th Avenue, in Sterling, IL.  The concert commences at 7:30 p.m.

“Peter and the Wolf” is just one of the classics of childhood, and it gains additional interest in later life, as one understands the masterful use of story, musical themes, and instruments,” said  Robert Whipple, the orchestra’s Executive Director.

Russian composer Sergi Prokofiev repeated musical themes and particular instruments to identify each of the animals and characters in the story.  Clinton, IA, resident Rob Engelson will narrate the tale, with conductor Brian Dollinger leading the orchestra.

Gateway Contemporary Ballet members will enrich the performance.  The Ballet also will join forces with the orchestra to portray animals from Charles Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals.”  Engelson will read recently-composed poems by Don Wooten.

In honor of the orchestra’s annual Young Artist, to be presented in this concert, and the youth-appeal of the program, all students (under eight and through eighth grade) will be admitted free of charge.  Adult tickets are $15, available in advance at Tegeler Music in Clinton; Fitzgerald Pharmacy in Morrison, IL; Grummert’s Hardware in Sterling.  Tickets will be available at the door of the concert.

Due to uncertain driving conditions, Community State Bank and the Symphony have joined to provide a bus from Clinton through Fulton, IL, and Morrison, to the concert site in Sterling.  The cost is $7 per person.  The bus departs at 6:15 p.m. from Community State Bank, 1325 17th Street, Fulton; 6:40 from Community State Bank, 220 E.
