On Friday, February 19, 2021, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced more than $7.8 million in funding to support local airports. The three largest local airports across the Region will receive a total of $7,867,455 in Federal funding in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These grants were awarded through the U. S. Department of Transportation. They are in direct response to the “Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act,” which Congresswoman Bustos helped pass into law.
This Federal funding will assist local airports as they prepare for, and respond to, disruption caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis. Below is a breakdown of the funding by recipient.
- Quad City International Airport, $2,826,232
- Peoria International Airport, $2,785,678
- Chicago Rockford International Airport, $2,255,545.
“The latest COVID-19 relief legislation was a critical step forward in delivering the support our communities need in the face of this public health crisis. [That] includ[es] our Regional airports that are crucial components of our local economy,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “In addition to serving travelers, local airports move goods and cargo–to help keep our supply chains strong during this critical time. I’m pleased to see this funding get back to our airports quickly, and [I] will continue to work to support them.”
