Patricia Jean Mathew, 80, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014, from complications of multiple sclerosis, at Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Morrison.
She was born May 20, 1934, in Sterling, IL, the daughter of Louise and Dillwyn Batcheller. Pat graduated as class valedictorian in 1952 from Sterling High School and attended Valparaiso University in Indiana. She married Gerald Mathew on September 16, 1953, and assisted her husband with their family farm for more than 40 years. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling. A loving wife and mother, Pat was very involved in her children’s activities, including serving as a 4-H leader for many years. She found much joy in music, gardening, traveling, and time spent with family and friends.
Pat is survived by her husband, Gerald; her children, Karen (Samuel) Marciano of Fort Wayne, IN; Richard (Jan) Mathew of Forsyth, IL; Julie (Todd) Engstrom of Rock Island, IL; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kathryn Louise.

OFFICIATING: Pastor David Burge of Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling, IL
VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Round Grove Cemetery, Morrison, IL
