Paint, Paint Everywhere

Pay attention at this year’s Paint the Town, Saturday, September 19, 2015, in Morrison, IL.  You may notice some veteran painters arrive at the event with more “stuff” than what they get in their registration bag. Some participants show up with paper towels, containers, extra brushes, and even rollers. They bring drawing chalk and a sketch of what to paint on their square.

In the past, some of the street artists brought paint of their own. It is requested this practice be stopped. The Paint the Town committee and the Morrison Street Department carefully test the paint, to find a product that will stay for a matter of weeks or months, depending on how soon the rains appear after the event.

Even more significant than staying power is making certain the paint is eco-friendly. As it dissolves from the streets, paint goes into City storm sewers. As PTT gets bigger, so, too, does the potential environmental impact. Planners are asking participants to please leave other pigments at home.

Of course, should you happen to have some PTT paint left over from other years, feel free to bring and use it. If you need more paint than the five bottles (red, yellow, blue, white, and black) provided, it can be purchased for $2 a bottle from any of the information areas.

The main information tent will be located next to Morrison City Hall, 200 W. Main Street. This is also where all volunteers are asked to check-in. There are satellite locations near the food court at Genesee and Main Streets and by Community State Bank, 220 E. Main Street.
