Paint Morrison’s Fire Hydrants on September 10

Posted by

RedHydrantThe Morrison Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the City of Morrison, is looking for individual and/or group volunteers to paint over 30 fire hydrants along U. S. Highway 30 and Route 78.  This will take place during our upcoming Community Clean-Up Day, Saturday, September 10, 2016.

We need volunteers of all ages for trash pick up on Main and Market Streets, in preparation for Paint the Town.  Clean-up and painting will take place between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Fire hydrants throughout the City require regular and routine maintenance, including painting.  Painted hydrants not only provide higher visibility for fire crews, when responding to fires, but also add aesthetics to the neighborhood.  Hydrants will be painted bright red.

“This voluntary community activity enables our residents to take ownership of a fire hydrant,” said Brandi Renkes, Chamber Beautification Committee member.  “Having volunteers paint hydrants is a significant cost-saving measure in support of our community.”

Volunteers wanting to paint hydrants must be 18 years of age.  Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  Helpful citizens should meet at the Chamber Office, 221 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, at 8:30 a.m., on September 10, to receive their paint and hydrant’s location.  People need to provide their own gloves, paint brushes, and transportation.  Please dress accordingly, as permanent paint will be used to freshen the hydrants.

To volunteer for either–or both–beautification tasks, and to help us get a better idea of how many volunteers to expect, please sign up at https://paintmorrisonred.eventbrite.com or call the MorrisonChamber at 815-772-3757.

In addition, if you cannot help on September 10, but would like to “adopt” a hydrant to paint at a later date, please call our office or email the address/location of the hydrant to morrisonchamber@morrisonil.org>.

Thank you, in advance, for your help in making this community project successful!
