P.E.O. Chapter FL held a meeting and program at Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Chapter members Marge Schleuning and Arlene Benedict served as co-hostesses.
Schleuning and Benedict are shown left-to-right in the first photo. Christine Schlegel and Pam Muur are pictured left-to-right.
They served a selection of pies made by the local bakery business “Baked by Liz,” 119 E. Main Street, Morrison. Following refreshments, a meeting was led by Chapter FL president pro tempore, Jan Kelly. With the program titled “The Nature of Serving,” Officers were elected for the new year.
On Tuesday, March 18, P.E.O. members met for dinner and a meeting at the Oak Room Restaurant, 903 W. Morris Street, Morrison. Following the meeting led by newly-elected President, Jean Eggemeyer, Chapter members Schlegel and Muur provided an entertaining program titled “The Nature of Sweetness.” It was prompted by the “Getting to Know You Game with M&M’s.” Each of the Chapter members was given a bag of M&M’s and a list of six ideas which were color-coded, to match the colors of M&M candies. As each member took a colored candy out of their bag, they told a fact about themself, such as a favorite hobby, favorite trip, or a St. Patrick’s Day tradition. It was a creative, enlightening, and great way to learn about other chapter members. Not to mention, the M&M’s were tasty, too!
P.E.O. is one of the pioneer societies for women, and was founded on January 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, IA. Today, P.E.O. has grown from that tiny membership of seven to almost a quarter of a million members, in chapters in the United States and Canada.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College; motivate women of all ages to achieve their highest aspirations.
