Othel “Ozzie” Osborn (1933 – 2018)

othel osbornOthel “Ozzie” Osborn, 84 of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown.

Ozzie was born on December 28, 1933, in Carbondale Township, IL, the son of Charlie C. and Violet (Ward) Osborn.  He was married to Yvonne Albus for 27 years; together they had two children, Rick and Marty.  He then married Charlotte P. McKenna in June 1982 in Coleta.  She preceded him in death.  Ozzie worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, IL, for 37 years.  He retired in 2000 but continued to serve as a board member, until 2001 when the mill closed.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting wood, and training bird dogs.  Ozzie was an avid Chicago Bears fan and Jeff Gordon fan.

He is survived by two sons, Rick (Lori) Osborn of Morrison, IL, and Christopher “Marty” Osborn of Woosung, IL; one sister, Barb (Robert) Rubright of Rock Falls, IL; two brothers, Homer Osborn of Sterling and Paul (Martha) Osborn of Mexico City, Mexico; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte; one brother, Herschel Osborn.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, IL.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Reverend Rick Koch officiating.

Burial will follow at West Genesee Cemetery in Coleta., IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
