It’s Girl Scout Cookie time, and 2017 commemorates the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies. To celebrate, GSUSA has introduced a specialty item, “Girl Scout S’mores.” This is a crunchy graham sandwich cookie, with creamy chocolate and marshmallowy filling.
The favorites–Thin Mints, Somoas, Do-si-Dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, and Tagalongs–continue to be for sale. Gluten-free “Toffee-tastic” is also available.
Morrison, IL, Girl Scouts will accept cookie orders by door-to-door sales through Sunday, January 29, 2017, to meet the late-February delivery date. Online sales through individual girls’ Digital Cookie websites end Wednesday, March 8.
Two troop leaders can be reached by telephone. They will put customers in touch with a Morrison Girl Scout.
Hillary Blevins (815-519-8781) co-leads a combined Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Troop. Lara Adolph, Tracy Banks-Geiger, Kelsey Lowrey, and Andrea Ramirez are co-leaders. There are nine Daisys, 14 Brownies, and one Junior Girl Scout. On Monday, January 9, they met at Morrison United Methodist Church, rather than Odell Public Library’s Program Room, “because our troop has grown so much,” Blevins said.
During this Cookie Rally, three stations were designed to inform girls about the sale and brainstorm ways to use their profits for troop pleasure and to help others.
Blevins, above right, concluded her three sessions by having girls vote on their goals. Attending a Build-a-Bear workshop and donating pet food to the Morrison Veterinary Clinic or Happy Tails Animal Shelter were their top choices. “They will be learning about animals in the spring,” she noted.
Cheryl Neumann (815-772-3214) leads a combined Cadette and Senior Troop. There are seven girls; six are Senior Girl Scouts. Her “troop wants to travel” with monies raised from cookie sales, Neumann stated. “They brainstorm places to go. A couple nights in Missouri or Michigan [or] a possible trip to St. Louis” are on their list. The troop has traveled to Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Michigan, and Minnesota previously.
Girl Scout may collect donations or “sell” boxes of cookies to be donated and shipped directly to military troops through Operation Care and other organizations. Support a Girl Scout’s cookie business and also acknowledge support for our military and other local organizations. Last year, over 42,000 boxes of cookies were donated through the Gift of Caring Program.
