Opportunities to Serve: City Clerk or Alderperson

City of Morrison Mayor Scott Vandermyde invites citizens to consider running for election to a pair of critical positions in City Government: City Clerk and Alderperson. Click her for two others opportunities to serve on commissions or boards.

These are elected positions. Municipal elections are in April. Election information packets are available at City Hall, 200 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL. All requirements are included in the packet.

The Morrison City Council is composed of eight elected Alderpersons from four wards. Alderpersons serve four-year, staggered terms. Municipal elections are held in April of odd numbered years, ie. 2023.

The City Council of Morrison meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m., and are held in the Community Room, located in the Odell Public Library at 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.

Morrison has four wards. The Ward Map is here: https://www.morrisonil.org/city-government. On the page find links to an Organizational Chart and City of Morrison Voting.

You must reside in the ward you wish to represent. Ward 1 has a two-year term and a four-year term up for election. Each other ward has a four-year term up for election.

City Clerk is available for a two-year term. This is an at-large position; the candidate must reside in the City but is not restricted to a particular ward. The Clerk’s duties include recording written minutes of Council meetings; filing and recording Council actions with County and State officials, where appropriate; other activities as dictated by State regulations.

Again, filing packets are available at City Hall. If you have any questions about these positions, you can call City Hall at 815-772-7657 or e-mail me at mayor@morrisonil.org.
