As the readership grows older, many readers request books from the Large Print collection, which numbers 976 books. This collection has grown, with help by the GoFundMe campaign in fall 2020, which was spearheaded by Odell Public Library Friends. They raised $1500 for Large Print additions alone, and books are being added monthly.
Jan Horberg, Morrison High School Librarian and Odell volunteer, researches best sellers and interesting reads in this category. She is shown at right in front of the Large Print stacks, with Librarian Meridith Layne.
Every six-to-eight weeks, many Large Print books travel out of the library to either Resthave Care & Rehabilitation or Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Morrison, IL. Resthave usually requests 50 books and Pleasant View checks out 25 books. These materials are selected by Jan Horberg and Lorna Temple. The most called for books are mysteries, Christian fiction, Amish romance, Westerns, and a few non-fictions, especially on well-known figures. Books are transported by Library personnel.
Odell’s Large Print collection is very popular with a large circulation. In 2020, 834 of these books were read, but in 2019 (with no pandemic going on), the circulation of our books was 1369. Suggestions for books to add to this collection are always welcomed.
