Father Gary Lawler will be a guest presenter at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Program Room, he will share his thoughts and impressions of Jerusalem and surrounding area, in a talk and slide presentation, “The Stops of Jesus.”
Many of us will never have the chance to visit Israel, Palestine, and Jerusalem. Father Lawler was afforded this opportunity to visit and study for several months in the fall of 2012 and again in 2014.
Jerusalem is the interesting point of three of the world’s religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. When speaking with Father Lawler, I asked him to name the first word he associated with Jerusalem.
He answered, “Holy. That’s why they fight over it. Although the people get along with each other, there are tension points, such as the Temple at the Mount.”
Father Lawler is fascinated with Jerusalem, he said. “The layers and layers of history do not come through unless you visit. It is a holy city that is over 4500 years old. I am not done with Jerusalem yet. There is another trip in me!”
Come listen, look, and learn! The Odell Public Library Friends invite the community to experience Jerusalem and its surroundings. There is no charge.
