Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, will begin its fall agenda of the Life-Long Learning series. On Monday August 24, 2015, Rosemary Hinkley of Freeport, IL, will share her experiences of Preparing to Be a Survivor After the Death of a Loved One. This is a program for all who will grieve and all who will have to assume new roles. The presentation will be held in the Program Room and begin at 6:30 p.m.
Karen Mouw of Morrison heard Hinkley speak while wintering in Texas. Karen found her program “very thought provoking.”
“Not only does Hinkley speak of preparedness, but she also offers a document whose sole purpose is to make life easier for the survivor. The cost: $1,” said Karen. Her nieces and nephews encouraged her to share her survivor process.
Most households tend to have “his” jobs and “her” jobs. When one person is left alone, that person has to take on all the jobs. Hinkley offers suggestions that come from her own situation. Her husband died of cancer after a two-year struggle, which gave them time to talk. She urges couples to tell each other their preferences for the funeral and burial and to make plans. Death is part of the circle of life.
“As a former English teacher, Rosemary is very organized and is a lively speaker,” stated Mouw. “She speaks from personal experience, not as a lawyer or estate planner, but from a personal perspective. I went twice to her presentation,” she said.
This program is for couples of all ages, from newlyweds to octogenarians. We all must prepare for the inevitable.
