To celebrate our founding fathers and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Odell Public Library will present the adventure film, “National Treasure,” starring Nicolas Cage, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. The location is 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, in the Program Room. The movie begins at 2:00 p.m. and includes complimentary popcorn and pop.
Nicolas Cage plays Benjamin Franklin Gates, an historian and amateur cryptologist, searching for a lost treasure of precious metals, jewelry, and other artifacts. Accumulated over many hundreds of years by warriors and looters, the elusive treasure was first seen in ancient Egypt but later rediscovered by the Knights Templar. The treasure is eventually seized and hidden by the American Freemasons during the Revolutionary War.
Gates’ grandfather gives Benjamin a clue, handed down through generations, from Charles Carroll, the last man to sign the Declaration of Independence. This clue is one word, “Charlotte.” With the clue, Benjamin begins a search that leads him to the Arctic Circle and a 19th century sailing ship. The vessel provides clues which lead Benjamin to believe the map to the treasure may be written in invisible ink–on the back of the Declaration of Independence!
The problem then becomes how to steal the document and decode its message. Gates is not alone in this search. A ruthless, unseen enemy is also searching for the treasure and the Declaration of Independence. The race is on!
