On Saturday, November 7, 2015, Friends of Odell Public Library sponsored an “Art for eReaders Exhibit Project.” Fifty-two canvases, painted by creative local artists, were on display for purchase.
In August approximately 50 former or current Morrison artists were invited to create art on a 6″ x 6″ canvas. These would be displayed at the library Saturday, November 7, at the Annual Book and Bake Sale. Each canvas was randomly numbered on the back. For $25, a patron selected a number, not knowing with which piece of art it corresponded.
The artwork exhibited the imagination and creativity. Artists were free to employ any media or technique. Their themes included nature, still life, portraits, and political commentary produced in the various styles of realism, abstract, and non-objective.
All the paintings sold. Proceeds of $1300 will purchase eReaders for the library: a Nook, Kindle, iPad, and Leap for children. The eReaders will be initially for use in the library and eventually be available for check out.
Friends of Odell Public Library thank each of the local artists! Because the art sold so quickly, the diverse canvases will be exhibited in the library until Tuesday, December 1, instead of Thursday, December 10. Those who purchased a piece may pick their artwork up on Wednesday, December 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
