Registration is underway for Odell’s 2017 Summer Reading Program, “Reading by Design!” Summer Reading Club, sponsored by the United Way of Whiteside County, encourages children to keep their reading muscles in shape over the summer, by offering fun and educational enrichment activities. The club will meet at the library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, each Thursday, from Thursday, June 15, to Thursday, July 13, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
“Reading by Design” will focus on science, art, and engineering. This year, the first two sessions will feature professional educators/entertainers, showcasing science experiments and magic for all ages. The remaining three sessions will include a variety of age-appropriate, hands-on crafts and building challenges.
Odell’s Summer Reading Club is open to children preschool-age through 8th grade. The Club is free and open to all, but registration is required by Saturday, June 6. Registration forms are available at Odell or can be found online at http://odellpubliclibrary.com/wp/?page_id=438.
Participants are asked to log their reading for the duration of the five-week club by tracking how many minutes they read and how many books are read. Reading log slips are available at Odell. Kids should begin logging their reading on Thursday, June 8, one week prior to our first club date.
Odell is also happy to continue summer reading programming for the whole community. Teens and adults who complete a short book review will be entered in weekly drawings to win prizes from local businesses. We always look forward to seeing what Morrison is reading.
Call, 815-772-7323 or stop by Odell Public Library with any questions. We look forward to seeing all of Morrison’s readers this summer.
