The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following preliminary information, about a two-vehicle, personal injury crash on IL Route 40 (Luther Road) and Genesee Road, on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at approximately 3:55 p.m.
Two vehicles were involved. Unit 1–2010 Gray Chevrolet Malibu–was driven by a 16-year-old male from Milledgeville, IL. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. Unit 2–2007 Gray Jeep Grand Cherokee–was driven by Brian Harris, a 53-year-old male from Chadwick, IL. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
CHARGES: Unit 1, 16-year-old male driver was cited for Failure to Yield upon turning left and a Graduated Driver’s License violation.
PASSENGERS: Unit 1–A 15-year-old male from Milledgeville was flown to a regional hospital, with life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old male from Milledgeville was flown to a regional hospital, with life-threatening injuries. Unit 2–Kieren Harris, an 18-year-old male from Chadwick was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred. Unit 1 was traveling southbound on IL Route 40; Unit 2 was traveling northbound on IL Route 40. Unit 1 made an improper left turn from IL Route 40 onto Genesee Road, into the path of Unit 2. Unit 2 struck Unit 1 on the passenger side, and both vehicles ended up in the yard of 24780 Genesee Road. Passengers of Unit 1 sustained severe injuries, and both were airlifted to a regional hospital. Unit 1 and Unit 2 drivers and the passenger in Unit 2 were all transported by ambulance to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
IL Route 40 was closed for an extended period for cleanup and the traffic crash investigation. It was reopened at 10:20 p.m. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the following agencies: Sterling Police Department, Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Milledgeville Police Department, CGH Ambulance, Milledgeville Fire Department and Ambulance, OSF Life Flight, Illinois Department of Transportation, and Slim-n-Hank’s Towing.
