Paula Rodriguez and Linda Temple, of Morrison, IL, are well-known for their longstanding, humanitarian mission work in many Countries. Through year-round food sales, they raise funds to support airfare and travel costs. In collaboration with 18 members of Dominian Christian Fellowship Center in Lyndon, IL, Rodriguez and Temple will hold a Chili and Soup Supper fundraiser, on Friday, November 22, 2019.
Supper will be served in the City of Morrison Community Room inside Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Take-out is available.
A free-will donation will do much to aid orphaned Liberian children and be appreciated by two women who will deliver it.
“The community really supports us,” Rodriguez noted, “and we appreciate them, for letting [Linda and me] do what we love.”
The menu includes chili and two soups, Southwestern Chicken Tortilla and Vegan Vegetable (made with a vegetable broth); corn bread and Chili Cheese Corn Bread; Jello; cake and cookies; water and coffee. Bake Sale items will be available, too.
In June 2020, the group will travel to Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, situated on the west Atlantic Ocean coast of Africa. Monrovia was named in honor of our fifth President, James Monroe. It is now winter, which is the cool, rainy season, stated Rodriguez–but that means temperatures in the 80s!
Ebola virus has ravaged the population, leaving countless orphaned children without family and in poverty.
The mission group will serve time at one of many orphanages. They will buy items for the children when they arrive in Monrovia.
Currently the local population is digging two new wells. Rodriguez stated the group will attend the dedication of these improvements.
