The Morrison School District is sponsoring a developmental screening for those four- and five-year-old children who will be eligible to attend kindergarten, during the 2016-2017 school year. Boys and girls must be age five before Thursday, September 1, 2016.
Community Kindergarten Screenings will be held at Northside School, 520 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL, on
- Thursday, February 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
- Thursday, March 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Screenings are free of charge. Parents are asked to call and schedule an appointment for their child by Friday, February 19. Telephone Northside Elementary School at 815-772-2153.
Children who attend the Morrison Early Learning Program/Bi-County Preschool, Morrison Preschool, or Morrison Community Day Care, will be screened at these locations at a different time. An additional screening appointment is not necessary.
The screening inventory used helps kindergarten teachers assess readiness for school and developmental progress, as well as developmental strengths and weaknesses. Areas addressed include
- fine and gross motor skills
- receptive and expressive language
- academic cognitive development
- daily living skills
- social-emotional skills
- overall adaptive behavior.
All families will receive a complete packet of registration materials for the 2016-2017 school year, as well as a list of additional required documentation, including–but not limited to–immunization records, physicals, dental exams, optical exams, and birth certificates.
“Parent Meeting and Screening Results” takes place on Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Northside Elementary School Cafeteria. All screening results will be explained. Each child’s results will be given to parents that night.
“Kindergarten Experience Day” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, from 1:30 to 2:55 p.m.
